Despite its tepid box office intake, the film's score, by renowned composer Vangelis, became a successful world music album. Some critics contend Vangelis wrote the music to be sold independent of the film.

Plot summary

The story tells of Christopher Columbus's discovery of the New World and its effect on the indigenous people.
