A Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child is a sequel to the movie series, 'A Nightmare On Elm Street'. Alice, having survived the previous installment of the Nightmare series, finds the deadly dreams of Freddy Krueger starting once again. This time, the taunting murderer is striking through the sleeping mind of Alice's unborn child. His intention is to be "born again" into the real world. The only one who can stop Freddy is his dead mother, but can Alice free her spirit in time to save her own son?

Summary

A year after the events of the last Nightmare, Alice and her boyfriend Dan are ready to graduate from Springwood High with their friends Yvonne, Greta, and Mark. Yvonne is a great swimmer who works at the hospital. Mark likes to draw bloody comic books but is squirmish. And Greta is starved by her mother to become a model. Alice leaves for work after the graduation ceremony, but she finds that she has entered another dream, watching the gruesome details of Freddy Krueger's rebirth in the asylum which he was originally born in. Alice then finds out she was awake the whole time, and after Krueger kills Dan, she finds out she is pregnant. Krueger is using Alice's unborn child as a window into the dream world, and has started killing off her friends. She must find Krueger's mother, Amanda, for she is the key to stopping him.

The Body Count/Cause of death

Dan: Fell asleep at the wheel of his truck. In the dream Krueger merged him with a motorcycle. Died in real life due to a head on collision with a truck. Police believed him to be drunk.

Greta: Cause of death: Fell asleep at the dinner table while her mother held a dinner party. In the dream Krueger scooped out her stomach and force fed her, her cheeks extending to a horrible size as Krueger choked her like a baby while everyone at the table laughed at her.

Mark: Cause of death: Fell alseep and entered a comic book dreamworld. Tried to stop Krueger from torturing Greta by becoming the superhero he created. Krueger came back as "Super Freddy" and cut up Mark when he became like paper and bled ink. Police believe he was crushed.

The Cut Scenes

When the movie was released, a large number of scenes were deleted. The first scenes were the extended parts of Dan merging the motorcycle. The second was the cut out scenes of Greta's death, as now it only showed Krueger feeding Greta the contents of the doll when he then scooped out her stomach and fed her that. These scenes weren't put in the DVD release but the can be found on Laserdisc and the uncut video.
