Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein is a 1948 comedy/horror film in which characters played by Bud Abbott and Lou Costello deliver large heavy crates to a wax museum only to discover that the contents -- Frankenstein's monster and Dracula -- are neither wax nor dead. Bela Lugosi stars as Dracula; Glenn Strange stars as Frankenstein's monster; and Lon Chaney Jr. makes an appearance as the Wolfman. The film was directed by Charles T. Barton from a screenplay by Robert Lees, Frederic I. Rinaldo and John Grant.PlotAbbott and Costello are Chick Young and Wilbur Grey, two freight handler clerks, who are asked to deliver a package to a house of horrors museum. Little do they realize that the package they're delivering is none other than the Frankenstein monster. When they get to the museum, Wilbur spots Dracula (Bela Lugosi) sneaking in and revitalizing the monster. Dracula manages to spirit the monster out before anyone else can spot them. When the museum owner, Mr. MacDougal, sees that his box is empty, he accuses the boys of theft and has them thrown into jail. Later, the boys are bailed out. They think that Sandra (Lénore Aubert), a woman who has affections for Wilbur, had bailed them out. However, it turns out that it was a different woman, Joan (Jane Randolph), who ALSO has affections for Wilbur, who bailed them out. What they don't know is that Joan is working for the insurance company that is processing Mr. MacDougal's claim. She wants to stay close to the boys to find out what they know. Across the hall from the hotel room they're staying at, Larry Talbot (Lon Chaney Jr.) asks them to lock him in his room for the night. The boys do so, not seeing Larry turn into the Wolfman. The next morning, the boys initially don't believe Larry's story of turning into a wolf, but Larry sees that Wilbur had seen 'the living dead', which at least convinces Wilbur. Later on, the boys and Joan go to Sandra's castle, where they'll pick her up to take her to a costume ball. However, Sandra is actually working with Dracula, having mastered Frankenstein's notebooks, and keeping her eye on the 'perfect' brain that will be docile and gentle (I.E. Wilbur's brain) when transferred to the monster's body. Dracula assumes the guise of a fellow doctor, who introduces himself to the boys and Joan. They are then introduced to Dr. Stevens (Charles Bradstreet), who has some questions for Dracula about some equipment being sent to the lab there. Dracula manages to deflect Dr. Stevens' questions by pairing him with Joan. Sandra, though, says she suddenly has a splitting headache and won't be able to go to the costume party. When Dracula talks in private with Sandra, she reveals that she's getting too nervous about Dr. Stevens' questions and wants to pull out. However, Dracula manages to hypnotize Sandra and bites her neck, putting her in his will. As the boys are wandering around the castle, they get a call from none other than Larry Talbot, who informs them that they're in Dracula's castle. After some reluctance, Wilbur agrees to search around the castle with Chick. Wilbur soon stumbles on an underground passageway, complete with boat and dock. Behind a secret revolving door, Wilbur again comes face to face with Frankenstein's monster, but can't seem to be able to get Chick behind the wall fast enough - Dracula manages to get the monster out before Chick can see it. At the costume party, the boys run into both Larry and Mr. MacDougal. Sandra, now under the spell of Dracula, comes along also and gets Wilbur to a quiet spot. Just before she can take a bite out of Wilbur's neck, they're distracted and Wilber escapes. In the meantime, Larry turned back into the Wolfman and attacked Mr. MacDougal. Mr. MacDougal, thinking that it was either Wilbur or Chick who attacked him for revenge, quickly sets up a search party. Chick manages to slip away, but Wilbur is drawn back to the boat by Dracula. Joan is knocked out by Sandra, and Chick - who finally spots Dracula and the monster - is knocked out by Dracula's gaze. Dracula, Sandra, Joan, Wilbur and the Monster all go back to the castle.
