Movies - Alvin Purple

Alvin Purple is a successful 1973 Australian comedy film.

The film is a sex-farce which follows a seemingly-ordinary, naïf young Melbourne resident, Alvin Purple (Blundell) who women find irresistible. He must try (unsuccessfully) to resist legions of women who want him. Much of the film consists of chase scenes, a la Benny Hill.

Alvin is so worn-out he seeks psychiatric help to solve his problems. His psychiatrist is, of course, a woman...

The film is an important one in Australian cinema history. It was the most commercially successful Australian film of the 1970s.

A 1974 film sequel Alvin Rides Again toned-down the sex scenes and nudity, adding more camp comedy. There was also a 1976 television sitcom version titled Alvin Purple. Blundel reprised the title role in both.
