| Anniyan (Aparichithudu in Telugu) is a 2005 high-budget Tamil movie. It is the first Indian movie to be dubbed into French and released worldwide in French-speaking countries. Columbia Tristar had recently acquired the French dubbing rights. The movie stars Vikram, Prakash Raj, Sadha, and Vivek. The film is directed by S. Shankar of Gentleman fame. The score and soundtrack, composed by Harris Jayaraj, was released on April 27 2005 and has made an incredible impact across South India. The motion picture took over two years to complete (2003–2005). PlotAnniyan is the story of Ramanujam "Ambi" Iyengar, a brahmin lawyer who suffers from Multiple Personality Disorder. He is an extremely law-abiding citizen and is frustrated with how society does not conform to his ideal. Ambi, deeply in love with Nandini Raghuram (Sadha), tries his hardest to please her in an overly practical way. Nandini disgusted by Ambi's failure to be romantic, always ends up bolting away. Remo, one of Ambi's three multiple personalities succeeds in wooing Nandini. As the story progresses, we are introduced to Anniyan, the last of Ramanujam's personalities;the personality that is more vicious and determined than his other two alters. As the story goes, Anniyan performs "punishments of hell" to those who sin. Eventually, Anniyan and Remo have an internal struggle when Nandini herself performs a minor sin. Prakash Raj plays a tough cop who is on the maniac reformer's trail. Ambi, accused of Anniyan's crimes, is jailed and beaten. Vikram, who plays all three of the personalities has a brilliant scene towards the end of the movie where all Ambi, Anniyan and Remo have internal struggers amonst themselves while being beaten by a police officer who then becomes extremely frightened. The climax features how Ambi finds out his own hideous secret of various personalities, and how he reacts to them. The film is loosely based on the 1998 Sidney Sheldon bestseller 'Tell me your Dreams'. More On The FilmInfluences from S. Shankar's other popular films like Indian and Gentleman have been noted. The use of the time-slice method in the film, as with The Matrix films and earlier used by Shankar in his film Nayak, as well as the Farah Khan directed Main Hoon Na, proved popular with the audience. The Special Effects were provided by Big Freeze, a department based in London. Art Direction for the film was provided by Sabu Cyril.Similar StoriesAnniyan is not the first work in Tamil to deal with MPD or Multiple Personality Disorder. Other stories that have MPD in their plot include1. Chandramukhi 2.
