Atentát is a 1964 2nd World War film based on a true story of assassination of top Nazi leader Reinhard Heydrich in Prague (see Operation Anthropoid).

Plot

In June 1942, Reinhard Heydrich, one of the most feared top Nazis (possible Hitler´s successor and architect of Holocaust), is appointed ReichsProtekter of Bohemia and Moravia. As a result of his brutality and oppression is called 'The Butcher of Prague' or 'The Blond Beast'. A squad of agents are selected, trained and then parachuted into Czechoslovakia. The team operated in Prague and planned the attack for half year. The mission is successfully executed in Prague On May 27th by means of an ambush, but almost fails at a crucial moment when one of their Sten guns jams and they are obliged to use a grenade instead. Heydrich eventually succumbs to his wounds but during this time the group are betrayed by one of their member and they are cornered in a church crypt in Prague. In the gun-battle that followes, all but two of the agents are killed. The remainder commit suicide. The Nazis take savage reprisals, including the murder of all male inhabitants and destruction of the village of Lidice.
