The Awards of the International Indian Film Academy (commonly known as the IIFA Awards) is an award ceremony, celebrating and honouring Indian cinema around the world.

History

The awards began in 2000 and was first held in London at The Millennium Dome. From then on the awards would move around the world signifying the international purpose of Indian Cinema. The award ceremonies were held in various cities around the world:-

2000 - London, United Kingdom
2001 - Sun City, South Africa
2002 - Malaysia
2003 - Johannesburg, South Africa
2004 - Singapore
2005 - Amsterdam

The awards are given in the current year but the winner is awarded for the performance or work for the previous year, for example someone who awarded in 2005 was recognised for the work in 2004.
