| Batros is a character from the 1980s cartoon series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe by Filmation. He appeared in one episode "The Great Books Mystery", from the show's second season, in which he was the main villain. Half-man and half-bat, he was described as "King of the Bat People" although no other members of his race were ever seen. Character ProfileIn his singular appearance on the cartoon series, Batros was responsible for the theft of the great books of Eternia, from the Royal library, in a scheme to steal the knowledge of the Eternians. It was claimed that he dwelled permanently on the dark side of Eternia, and it seemed his name was known throughout the planet, as when he was revealed as being responsible for the crime, Prince Adam remarked that he thought Batros only dwelled on Eternia's dark side. Batros hid the books in the Temple of the Sun, and after Skeletor learned of Batros' crime, he sent his henchmen Beast-Man and Trap-Jaw out to recruit Batros, knowing he would benefit from an ally of greater intelligence. Batros was, however, a largely independent villain and was hesitant at first to ally with Skeletor, having to be coerced into helping Skeletor in an invasion of Castle Grayskull.Batros wore a red bat symbol on his chest, which bore a resemblance to the symbol worn by the warriors of the Evil Horde, who were released in Mattel's Masters of the Universe toy line shortly after. It was most likely a coincidence given that Batros appeared on the show before the release of the Horde figures, but it has led some fans to speculate about a possible link between Batros and the Horde.
