Movies - Battles Without Honour or Humanity

Battles Without Honour or Humanity is a five-part series of movies directed by Kinji Fukasaka, starring Bunta Sugawara
, about the Japanese mafia known as the yakuza, in post-World War II Japan. Bunta Sugara plays Shozo Hirono who is ostensibily the protagonist, even though he spends large periods of time offscreen. The plot consists of a changing of the guard of new families and organziations with the same feuds and people, punctuated by the gritty violence.

Most of the violence in the series is realistic and brutal in nature and consists of gang members being recognized walking down the street and rival members drawing guns, chasing him down and shooting until their guns are empty.

The overall message and tone of the series is a bleak meditation on violence, anarchy, and futile struggles.
