| Becoming Jane is a Columbia Pictures film currently in pre-production and scheduled to be released in 2006. The film is based on the early life of author Jane Austen, to be played in the film by actress Anne Hathaway. Dame Maggie Smith and Julie Walters will also star in this picture, produced by an Irish Production Company; as yet their roles have not been announced. Becoming Jane is a wonderful new biography of Jane Austen by Jon Spence, published in England. It has been picked up by Miramax.
