Plot

Bed and Board follows the couple — now married — from Stolen Kisses
, Antoine (Jean-Pierre Léaud) and Christine (Claude Jade). Truffaut expands the character of Christine into a three dimensional person. She's still shallow, but it's now made clear that she's supposed to be that way to stress the strong difference between her and Antoine. When they see an impressionist on television doing an imitation of Delphine Seyrig's character from Last Year at Marienbad
, Antoine is moved, but Christine laughs. This is obviously to show that, no matter how much they love each other, they will always have their differences, and the only way for their marriage to survive is for them to learn to love each other's differences.

What separates this movie from Stolen Kisses is that Truffaut seems genuinely interested in the story and the characters. He handles their situations with precision and sometimes tenderness. Claude Jade, as Christine, shows considerable more skill as an actress than she did in Stolen Kisses. She was involved with Truffaut at the time of filming.
