| Bigature was Weta Workshop's nickname for the very large filming miniature models used in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, including some of the film's central pieces, including the fortress of Helm's Deep, the elven harbour of Grey Havens, the white city of Minas Tirith and the grim towers of Orthanc, Minas Morgul and Sauron's stronghold of Barad-dûr, the largest of which measured some 20 feet high. This use of large minatures was also utilised in Peter Jackson and Weta's next film, King Kong. Extensive computer graphics techniques and computer controlled cameras were used to seamlessly meld bigature photography with living actors.
