| Black Robe is a 1991 movie directed by Bruce Beresford. The screenplay was written by Irish-Canadian author Brian Moore, who based it on his own novel of the same name. The film is set in the 17th century and tells the story of a Jesuit priest and his young companion who are escorted in the dead of winter by Algonquin Indians across what is now called Quebec, to find a distant mission situated among the Huron Indians. When it was released, the film was highly praised for its authentic depictions of Indian life. The film stars Lothaire Bluteau as Father Laforgue. Other cast members include Sandrine Holt, Tantoo Cardinal and August Schellenberg.
