Movies - Borgia

Borgia is a film written and to be directed by Neil Jordan
for a 2006 release.

Cast

Premise

Borgia recalls the nefarious reign of the Borgia family, from patriarch Pope Alexander VI's election in 1492 to his death in 1503. The protagonist of Jordan's script is young Cesare Borgia who is, like his father Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia, a politically ambitious and greedy priest. When Cardinal Borgia becomes Pope Alexander VI, an accomplishment gained through simony, he makes Cesare a cardinal. Cesare will serve as the pope's consigliere while his whore-mongering brother Juan is designated Gonfaliere, or leader of the Papal armies. The pope's precocious young daughter, Lucrezia, will serve her father's ambitions in a much different manner.

The plot dramatizes Cesare's increasingly evil agenda to expand his family's power and territorial control at the expense of his political enemies. Numerous historical figures are reported to make an appearance, including Piero de Medici, Cardinal Guilo delle Rovere (later Pope Julius II), French king Charles, and infamous philosopher Nicolo Machiavelli who reportedly used Cesare as his model for The Prince.

Other Details

    (as Lucrezia), John Malkovich
    and Jean Reno
were also attached. In December 2005, Neil Jordan stated that Borgia would be his next film.
  • Fresh fears of filming being once again delayed were sparked after Colin Farrel was admitted into rehab immediately after the filming of Miami Vice
for exhaustion and dependency on prescription drugs which were prescribed to the actor when he suffered a back accident during the filming of Alexander
    .
  • The film will start lensing in April 2006.
