Cars will be the seventh Pixar film and is scheduled for release June 9, 2006. The movie's 2001 working title was Route 66, but in 2002, the title was changed to prevent people from thinking it was related to the 1960 television show with the same name.

The film was originally going to be released in November 2005, but soon after the trailer's release in late 2004, the movie's release date was changed to June 9, 2006, so it could receive a summer release, and so the DVD would be sold just in time for the holidays of 2006. ), the film will feature the voices of Owen Wilson, Bonnie Hunt, Paul Newman, Cheech Marin, John Ratzenberger, Larry the Cable Guy, Richard Petty, and Darrell Waltrip.

Due to a corporate falling-out between Pixar and The Walt Disney Company, Cars was scheduled to be the last Pixar film to be distributed by Disney; it would have marked the last film in the studios' agreement. However, on January 24, 2006, Disney acquired Pixar in a $7.4 billion (USD) deal that will have Pixar now a member of the Disney family.

The soundtrack is available on Walt Disney Records, the CD-ROM and video games are available from Disney Interactive, and merchandise is available at the Disney Store, Radio Disney and books available at stores everywhere Disney Publishing Worldwide.

Plot

The story involves aspiring-champion racecar Lightning McQueen, who is on the fast track to success, fame and everything he has ever hoped for - until he takes an unexpected detour on dusty Route 66. His have-it-all-now attitude is thrown into a tailspin when a small-town community that time forgot, Radiator Springs, shows McQueen what he has been missing in his high-octane life.
