| Champagne Charlie was a 1944 musical film directed by Alberto Cavalcanti based on an 1860s play that, in turn, was based on the real life rivalry between George Leybourne, who wrote the song of that name, and Alfred Vance. Leybourne was played by Tommy Trinder and Vance by Stanley Holloway; the female leads were Betty Warren and Jean Kent. The film was remade in 1989, for television, starring Hugh Grant.
