	Movies - Characters related to The Mummy

The Mummy (1999 film), The Mummy Returns, and The Scorpion King are a series of related movies released from 1999 to 2002. A third Mummy movie is in the planning stages, but nothing official has been announced.

The Mummy and The Mummy Returns chronicles the adventures of Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan and adventurer Rick O'Connell as they fight agaisnt the resurrected mummy Imhotep. The Scorpion King is a sort of prequel to The Mummy Returns and only loosely connected with the first two movies. It gives an in-depth treatment to events glossed over in the introduction to The Mummy Returns. While many characters that appeared in The Mummy are also in The Mummy Returns, only Mathayus (the Scorpion King) is in both The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King.

Rick is an American serving in the French legion. He is the hero when Evelyn Carhanan reads from the Book of the Dead and releases a mummy. He must save her.

The Mummy Returns

Rick is now married to Evelyn, after they were happily safe from the Mummy. He has a bratty son, Alex. He is back to fight of the power when a busty woman named Meela ressurects him.

Evelyn is a librarian and Egyptologist, who decides to join Ricks and the gang to find Egyptian treasure. When she reads from the Book of the Dead, evil is unleashed.

The Mummy Returns

After being rescued by Rick, she marries him, but must be back to fight more evil.

Jonathan is the brother of Evelyn. He is interested in Egyptology (although moslty only for money and treasure) and joins the gang.

The Mummy Returns

He accompanies Rick and the gang after hearing of an enormous diamond atop the Scorpion King's temple. As they escape in an airship, Johnathan demands that Rick let him hang over the side of the ship, risking death, long enough to retrieve the jewel, which is as large as Johnathan's torso.

In The Mummy Imhotep is the high priest of Seti I and secretly the lover of Set I's mistress Anck-su-namun.The Secret affair between these two results in a series of events which leads to Seti I's death at the hands of Anck-su-namun.

Anck-su-namun takes her own life and Imhoptep attempts to resurrect her. This attempt is deemed to be blasphemous and Imhoptep and his followers are condemed to be mummified alive. Imhotep is mummified in a special way designed to be especially horrific. The process results in the creation of a powerful undead being.

After he is released Imhotep's further attempts to resurrect Anck-su-namun and the other characters' attempts to stop him are the focal points of the film.

The Mummy Returns

In The Mummy Returns Imhotep is released once again by a group trying to find the burial place of the Scorpion King. Among this group is a woman who is Anck-su-namun reincarnated in a new body. Imhotep helps this group at first but is eventually betrayed by them.

Imhotep dies in the end sadly knowing that the woman he loves never really loved him.

in The Mummy Ardeth Bey is a member of the Medjai, a group formed centuries ago to guard Imhotep's tomb and prevent his release. He quickly becomes an ally of Rick O'Connel and Evelyn Carnahan in their attempts to stop Imhotep.

The Mummy Returns

In The Mummy Returns Ardeth Bey returns as an ally of the O'Connels. He goes through many trails to stop the release of the Scorpion King.

He tries to stop Imhotep and Anck-su-namun from having a relationship. They kill him, but do not get past his guards.

In The Mummy, Anck-su-namun appears only in flasbacks which show the events surrouding her affair with Imhotep and her death.

The Mummy Returns

In The Mummy Returns it is revealed that Anck-su-namun's soul has been reincarnated in the body of a woman named Meela Nais. Meela is one of those involved in the plot to release Imhotep once again. This is done as a means by which they intend to find the tomb of The Scorpion King.
