Movies - Cinema of Nepal


The Cinema of Nepal is said to have begun with Aama, a film produced by His Majesty's Government of Nepal, and released on October 7, 1964 (2021B.S.), and D. B. Pariyar's Satya Harishchandra, which was the premier of the first Nepali Language film on September 14, 1951 in India. The first Eastman Color film was Kumari, produced by Royal Nepal Film Corporation in 1975–1977 (2032/2034B.S.). According to the famous Nepali movie director Suman Rimal, the first Nepali film in India was Paral ko Aago, which was made in black and white, and was produced by West Bengal Government, India in collaboration with Cineroma Movies Ltd. of Calcutta, India. Paral ko Aago was directed by Pratap Subba, with story by Guru Prasad Mailali. These films have lost popularity among the population, however, and the industry has suffered accordingly.
