Continental Divide is a 1981 American romantic comedy. It was directed by Michael Apted from an original screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and produced by Steven Spielberg and stars John Belushi and Blair Brown.

Plot

A Chicago reporter, Ernie Souchak (Belushi), is doing a story on the Mob in the city. Eventually his apartment is bombed and he decides to leave town for his own safety. He goes to investigate eagle researcher, Nell Porter (Brown). He meets her at her remote mountain cabin. The two are at odds at first but eventually fall in love. Souchak is later forced to return to Chicago when one of his sources is mysteriously killed.

As soon as Souchak returns to Chicago, he is immersed again in his work and soon forgets Porter. However, Porter and Souchak meet again in Chicago where she is attending a symposium. They rekindle their relationship, but it's clear that the city environment stifles her. Eventually she returns to her mountain solitude.

At the last minute, Souchak joins her on the train ride back. Arriving at her station, they decide to marry. He returns to Chicago, she to her cabin. During the closing credits, photographs are displayed conveying that they split their time together between the mountain and Chicago. Singer Helen Reddy performed the ending theme, "Never Say Goodbye".
