	Movies - Creation

Creation was an unfinished 1931 feature film, and a project of stop motion animator Willis O'Brien that was scrapped by RKO studio head David O. Selznick on the grounds of expense. It was about man interacting with dinosaurs on an island, although the storyline was perceived by the studio worker who reccommended the film's cancellation, Merian C. Cooper, as boring due to lack of action. In the film, a few men are shipwrecked on the island, where one stumbles upon an infant Triceratops and kills it. The infant, however, had a mother, and it emerged to take revenge by killing the shooter. The completed footage ran twenty minutes in length.

Other dinosaurs featured in the film included the Tyrannosaurus rex, the Stegosaurus, and the Brontosaurus. Other animals portrayed as living on the island included chimpanzees and jaguars.

Legacy

Despite his dislike for the film itself, the special effects in the completed footage impressed Cooper and became partial inspiration for the effects in Cooper's 1933 film King Kong
. O'Brien himself worked on many scenes in King Kong. Some of the scenes featuring dinosaurs from Creation were even inserted into King Kong, but were edited out before its release.
