| Daughters of the Dust was a 1991 movie directed by Julie Dash. It told the story of three generations of African-American women at the end of the 19th Century and beginning of the 20th, and focused on the family's migration from Sea Island to the American mainland. Featuring an unusual narrative device, in being told by an unborn child, the movie gained critical praise, for both its rich language and use of song, and for its use of imagery. The movie featured Cora Lee Day, Alva Rogers, Barbara-O, Turla Hoosier and Kaycee Moore. In 2004, Daughters of the Dust was added to the National Film Registry in the Library of Congress, recognising the cultural, historical and aesthetic significance of the movie.
