Deewar is a classic Indian movie, directed by Indian director Yash Chopra. The movie is remembered for its catchy dialogues(Salim-Javed) and breath-taking performances by the lead actor Amitabh Bachchan who was ably supported by Shashi Kapoor, playing the role of his younger brother.

Story

The movie tells the story of two brothers, Vijay and Ravi Verma, who follow different career paths(of a smuggler and a cop respectively). Vijay is the elder one and has seen his mother go through hard times to bring up her sons. So he follows the path of crime to make easy money. Ravi joins the police force, though not intentionally, but for livelihood.

As the professions chosen by them are so contrasting in nature, and since they live in the same city (in fact the same house) they were very naturally bound to confront each other. Their mom has to make a choice now, between the two sons. Being an idealist, she chooses to support Ravi.

It is not your victory but defeat. We had lost our shelter; My dad died; My mom had to live like a widow though she wasn't one for many years. Yeh dekho yeh wohi main hoon aur yeh wohi tum. Aaj main kahan pahuch gaya hoon aur tum kahan ho. Aaj mere paas buildingey hai, gaadi hai, bank balance hai. Tumhare paas kya hai. Kyaa hai tumhare paas. ................ Mere paas ... Maaa Hai.

(Look at me today, and look at you. See where I have reached, and where you remain. Today I have buildings, cars, a bank balance. What do you have? - I have Mom.)

Jab ek bhaai bolega to ek bhaai sunega, jab ek mujrim bolega to ek police officer sunega.

(When a brother talks, a brother will listen. When a criminal talks, a police officer will listen.)

Uff tumhare yeh usool, yeh aadarsh. Kis kaam ke hai yeh. Inko gondhkar do waqt ki roti naheen banaayi jaa sakti

(Oh, these principles, these ideals of yours. What use are these? They cannot be pawned for two square meals)
