Movies - Delta Tau Chi

Delta Tau Chi is the fictional fraternity in the popular 1978 film Animal House.

Supposedly the writer was thinking of "Detox" when he came up with the letters, which appear in Greek as ΔTX.

Delta Tau Chi is known as the most wild fraternity at the fictional Faber College. The fraternity is best known for its crazy parties, low academic performance, and numerous pranks.

The Deltas, as they are informally known, are constantly hosting wild parties. During the movie, a Roman toga party is held. According to the Faber disciplinary council, two dozen reports of individual acts of perversion were received. Douglas C. Neidermeyer, the sergeant at arms, claims that these acts were "so profound and disgusting" that decorum prohibited listing them.

Deltas have some of the lowest GPAs on campus. They have received a deficient aggregate grade point average for 5 consecutive semesters. The president himself only has a 1.6 GPA. The highest GPA of the pledge class is only 1.2. One member, John 'Bluto' Blutarsky has a 0.0. Another member, Daniel Simpson 'D-Day' Day, does not have a grade point average, as all his classes are incomplete.

The Deltas are well known for their pranks. Some of their pranks are performed on a regular basis. For example, every Halloween the Deltas put underwear in the college's trees; every Spring, the deltas cause some of the toilets on campus to explode. Other pranks are more unexpected and random. On one occasion the Deltas dumped a truckload of fizzies into the swimming pool during a meet. On another, the Deltas had the medical school cadavers delivered to an alumni dinner.
