Different for Girls is a 1996
British comedy with a major character who is a transsexual. The film was directed by Richard Spense and written by Tony Marchant.

Synopsis

Paul Prentice and Karl Foyle were close friends during their prep school days, and some years later they are reunited, but Paul is shocked to discover that Karl has become Kim.

The film follows these two characters and reveals how their relationship changes due to Karl's transformation to Kim. Paul struggles with his friend's transition through many comic and serious moments, and ultimately comes to accept Kim.
