Movies - Disney Vacation Club

Disney Vacation Club is the common name for the vacation ownership properties in the Walt Disney World Resort and elsewhere owned and operated by Disney Vacation Development, Incorporated
, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. The first Disney Vacation Club Resort was Disney's Old Key West Resort, which opened in 1991. Officially, the only accommodations currently available for sale are at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, though shares of other resorts can be purchased from existing members. There are currently around 100,000 member families in Disney Vacation Club.

Cancelled projects

A project in Newport Coast, CA began in March 1994, followed by rumors of resort plans in Beaver Creek, Colorado. In August 1995 an issue of Wired magazine reported that Disney Vacation Club was considering a site at Times Square in New York City, part of the 42nd Street Project near the New Amsterdam Theater and ABC studios. Neither the Beaver Creek nor the Times Square project ever came to fruition.

In February 1997, Disney announced that they were canceling the plans for Newport Coast resort and 11 months later Marriott announced a project on Disney's former site which was expected to open in June 2000.

Recent announcements

In May 2005, Disney Vacation Club announced that they would make a presence at the Disneyland Resort in California.

It is rumored among DVC members that the next Disney Vacation Club accommodations will be at an accommodation block at Disney's Contemporary Resort, although this rumor has lost steam over the past year.

In the early 2000s, it became possible for DVC members to spend their points on accommodation at the Disneyland Resort and the Disneyland Resort Paris, and in 2005 it became possible to spend points at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. The Tokyo Disney Resort is not owned by Disney, which is why it is the only remaining Disney resort not to be available to DVC members.
