Dr. Dolittle is an American comedy film, released in 1998 and starring Eddie Murphy

Dr. Dolittle is about a doctor who discovers that he can talk to (and understand) animals.

"Doctor Dolittle" also refers to a character, John Dolittle, in a series of novels by Hugh Lofting, written mostly in the 1920s and 1930s. In the novels, John Dolittle is a doctor who studies the speech of animals and learns to talk with them. Presumably this movie was inspired by the novels; however, virtually none of the material of the novels is included in the movie. This film generated its theatrical sequel that was released in 2001, simply titled Dr. Dolittle 2''. Both films also starred Raven Symone and Kyla Pratt as Dolittle's daughters.
