| Eight Legged Freaks is a 2002 movie directed by Ellory Elkayem and starring David Arquette and Kari Wührer. The plot concerns a collection of spiders who are exposed to a chemical that makes them grow to an enormous size. It has been called "a B-Movie with A-Movie special effects." Taglines:
PlotIn an arid mining town somewhere in Arizona, a new mall is being put up and culture is coming to an end as we know it. Just as long-ago resident Chris McCormack blows back into town to save his father's mine (And spark a relationship with Sheriff Sam Parker), a nutcase with a hobby for collecting spiders meets his match: The spiders break out of their cages and, having ingested toxic waste beforehand ("Spider steroids," the man called them), mutate to the size of SUV's and decide to feast upon the townspeople. Will anyone survive the mayhem?TitleThe film was originally to be titled Arach Attack, but the similarity to "Iraq Attack" made the title seem inappropriate near the start of the Iraq War. In contrast, a joke in a commercial for 1990 spider movie Arachnophobia, which premiered during the buildup to the first Gulf War, showed a gentleman at a screening mispronouncing the name of the movie as "Iraqiphobia".InspirationThe film's director, Ellory Elkayem, got the idea for the film following his 1997 short film, Larger than Life, which also dealt with a spider-fighting storyline. However, it is not based on H.G. Wells 's short story 'The Valley of Spiders' or used as an initial inspiration.[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Eight Legged Freaks ] Some related entries: The Saragossa Manuscript | Pet Sematary II | Torque | Chaos | 3 Ninjas | Red Light | Bill Nichols | Chump Change | Angoor | Children of Mini-Japan | The Princess and the Warrior This page is based on the copyrighted Wikipedia article Eight Legged Freaks; it is used under the GNU Free Documentation License.
