Elling is a Norwegian film (2001) directed by Petter Næss. It was derived mostly from the content of the novel Brødre i Blodet ("Brothers by Blood") by Ingvar Ambjørnsen. Other books with the same character is Elsk meg i morgen ("Love me tomorrow", 1999), Fugledansen ("Bird's Dance", 1995) and Utsikt til paradiset ("Panorama to Paradise", 1993).

The movie is about Elling and his struggle to become a normal person in society. He's a man suffering from mental problems. He has lived with his mother all his life, and when his mother dies he has a mental breakdown and ends up in a mental hospital. His room mate there is the somewhat simepleminded Kjell Bjarne. They move in togehter in a appartment in the city where every new day is a challenge.

Elling has been translated to several languages, has received great responses from the audience and one Oscar-nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. It was filmed mostly in Oslo. The capital of Norway.
