Empire of the Ants was a 1977 science fiction horror film. Based very loosely on a story by H.G. Wells, the plot involves a group of prospective land buyers led by Marilyn Fryser (Joan Collins), who wind up battling mutated giant ants.

Trivia

Filmed before Collins hit the big time in Dynasty, Collins reportedly said this was her worst ever acting experience.

The film features the phrase "I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords". This was also used in the Simpsons episode Deep Space Homer, and even since then, variations replacing the word 'insect' as appropriate have entered popular usage.
