The FCMM, or the Festival de Nouveau Cinema Nouveaux Media (Montreal Festival of New Cinema and New Media) is the Montreal Independent Film Festival. It features independent film from around the globe.

The existence of FCMM was threatened in 2004 with the rise of the FIFM. Daniel Langlois, longtime director of FCMM jumped ship and moved over to FIFM, when SODEC and TeleFilm Canada pressured Spectra Entertainment to take him. However, with this move came the threat of being cuckolded. Langlois programmed the FIFM to coincide with FCMM. It may have been his intent to merge the two festivals. The dates have subsequently been adjusted. The FIFM was created to replace the Montreal World Film Festival with which SODEC and TeleFilm had a falling out with.

In 2005, both Langlois, and the founder of FCMM left, leaving it in the hands of fresh blood. With the threat of the FIFM, the WFF has agreed to let FCMM screen films at the WFF's flagship Imperial Cinema (newly renovated). FCMM will also use Concordia University's Hall auditorium, just as Fantasia Festival had earlier in the year. Despite having Langlois threaten to ban FCMM from his flagship iconic theatre, the Ex-Centris, FCMM will again be shown there.
