A Facehugger is the first stage in the life-cycle of the fictional Xenomorph aliens seen in the Aliens movie series. It has no real attack abilities on its own, besides its durability and its impregnation role. The Facehugger is hatched from a large organic-looking egg and laid in groups by a Xenomorph Queen. Once laid, the egg remains immobile until a potential victim comes within range of it. In Alien, the eggs are covered by a thin layer of mist that 'senses' nearby victims for the eggs. Once a victim is close, the Facehugger emerges from the egg, either slowly or almost explosively, depending on the situation. Once out, it will seek a host body to impregnate. It latches onto the face of this host and strangles the victim until it’s unconscious using it's long tail. Then it inserts a tube down their throat to lay an egg in the host's chest. While attached, the Facehugger not only renders the host unconscious, but provides it with sufficient oxygen to survive. Attempts to remove Facehuggers have generally shown to be futile, with the host usually dying. The Facehugger protects itself in this stage by wrapping its long tail around the host's neck, and will strangle it if any attempt to pry it off is made. Its acidic blood means that it cannot be safely cut off, either. Once the Xenomorph embryo is safely within the host and has begun to grow on its own, the Facehugger removes itself from the host's face and leaves, only to die a short time after; occasionally, however, dead hosts have been seen with Facehuggers still attached.

Superfacehugger

The Superfacehugger, sometimes called the Queen Facehugger, is a different type of Facehugger. The Superfacehugger has a black exoskeleton (similar to the adult form of the Xenomorph,) a spiked tail, webbing between its crablike legs, and it carries either one Queen embryo, or a Queen embryo and a normal Xenomorph embryo (according to popular fan theories.) The Superfacehugger is seen only in the Special Edition of Alien³
, and is often considered non-canon. Aside from those differences, the Superfacehugger is no different from the normal Facehugger.
