| Fire is a 1996 movie by Deepa Mehta starring Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das with music composed by A.R. Rahman. Its story is concerned with lesbianism and it attacks the conservative culture of India. Although it was filmed in New Delhi, it was partly produced in Canada. The film was banned in India after Hindu fundamentalists attacked cinemas where it was being screened. Fire is the first part of a linked trilogy by Mehta; it was followed by Earth (1998) and Water (2005).
