| Firewall is a 2006 American action/thriller film directed by Richard Loncraine and written by Joe Forte. It was filmed for a comparaitvely modest a budget of $60,000,000. It is rated PG-13. Non-spoiler summary: Jack Stanfield, the main character, is forced to steal 100 million dollars ($10,000 from the 10,000 richest people with an account in his bank) from the bank for which he designed a security system. The people stealing the money threaten to kill his family if he doesn't comply with their demands. PlotThe film opens with Jack Stanfield leaving his happy, normal wife and two children to go to work at a bank. Upon his arrival, the day goes smoothly until Jack is visited by a collection agency, claiming that he has $95,000 in debts to their online gambling site. He trusts a fellow colleague to take care of it (as he is convinced of some form of identity theft) and goes out for dinner with a colleague (Harry) and potential customer (Bill Cox). After the meal, Harry leaves in a taxi and Jack gets in his car. Unexpectedly, Cox follows him into the back seat. Cox then goes on to tell Jack that his family is being held hostage at their home to ensure Jack's cooperation. He then points a gun to Jack's head and forces him to drive home.Upon their arrival, Jack sees that, although his family is safe, they are under heavy watch by Cox's henchmen. Jack is not told what to do until the next morning, when he is told that he must give Cox $10,000 from the bank's 10,000 richest customers ($100 million total). He is outfitted with audio and video devices in the form of a pen and monitored cell-phone to prevent him from contacting law enforcement or escaping. Meanwhile, the rest of the Stanfield family is forced to go about life as normal. While Cox is unusually polite to the family, the family is told not to trust him. Once at work, Jack realizes he's being followed by a van containing one of Cox's henchmen. The van settles on a roof opposite to his office, providing the henchman with continued surveillance of Jack. Eventually, while the henchman is preoccupied with something else, Jack manages to pass the pen to his unknowing secretary Janet Stone, played by Mary Lynn Rajskub. At that point, however, Cox makes a surprise visit and takes the pen from the secretary, giving it back to Jack. He then coerces Jack into giving him a tour of the facilities and security system. On the way back home, Jack stops to talk to the henchman following him, to convince him that Cox will only double-cross him as well, offering Five million dollars to leave Cox. He fails, and is forced to go home again. There, Cox learns of the henchman's carelessness in missing Jack passing off his pen; Cox then shoots and kills him. Fearing for their lives, the Stanfields begin to plot escape. Jack, using the remote from a radio-controlled toy car, manages to scramble the surveillance equipment of the house, allowing the Stanfields to run down to the basement and shut off the power, throwing the house into darkness. Jack's family makes it out into the car, but right before they can leave, Cox pulls open the door and holds them at gunpoint. They are told if they try to escape again, they will be killed. Later that night, Cox and Jack's son (Andy) are sitting together watching TV. Cox offers him a cookie; Andy asks if there are any nuts, as he is allergic to them. Cox says no, and Andy takes a cookie. In truth, there are nuts, and Andy begins to have an allergic reaction. However, Cox has his EpiPen; he gives it to Jack only when he promises to make the heist. The next day, Cox forces Jack to fire his secretary. Jack downloads the files for the $100 million onto his daughter Sarah's iPod mini hard drive. He then sets about wiping his traces clean, deleting security data and surveillance tapes. He must go to a wire transfer in order to give Cox the money. He later returns home, only to find the house empty except for Liam, one of Cox's men. Realizing his time is almost up, Jack attacks the man and kills him by reapeated blows to the head with a blender. He then tries to call Harry using the unmonitored cell phone but cannot reach his friend. So, he sneaks into Harry's apartment to wait for his friend's return. By chance Jack hears a message from his wife, saying that she loves Harry, which she was forced to make earlier that day. Hearing someone coming, he is forced to hide in a nearby room. Both Cox and Harry enter. Cox suddenly shoots Harry from behind, using the gun he'd confiscated from Jack. Because of this, it appears that Jack killed Harry in a jealous rage over his wife, Beth. Jack runs to the closest friend he has: his fired secretary Janet. He asks her for help, and she provides him with transportation to a local branch of the bank he works at. There, he finds Cox's account and calls him. Jack tells him that there’s been a change of plans and that he is draining the account. Cox threatens to kill Beth and the kids if Jack doesn’t put the money back, but Jack has completely wiped the Cayman Island account clean and will not cooperate. He informs Cox that he will get his money back when Jack gets his family back. Jack tells Cox that he will call him when the banks open to make the exchange before hanging up on him. During the conversation, Jack hears the family dog in the background, and realizing that the dog has a traceable collar, manages to track his family via GPS technology. He and his secretary follow the signal, leading them to an abandoned house. The car crashes into one part of the house, incinerating it and one of Cox's henchmen with it. Cox shoots henchman Vel in the chest when Vel tries to get Cox to leave the family alone. Jack and Cox fight, with Jack finally sinking a pickaxe into Cox's back. The movie ends with a happy portrait of the reunited family.
