Floating Weeds (浮草, Ukikusa) is a 1959 film directed by Yasujiro Ozu and shot in colour by Kazuo Miyagawa, one of Japan's most highly regarded cinematographers. It is a remake of Ozu's own black-and-white silent film A Story of Floating Weeds (1934).Plot summaryA group of travelling kabuki actors is stranded in a seaside town when their tour collapses for lack of finances. The leading actress (Machiko Kyô) is angered to learn that her lover, the troupe's lead actor (Ganjiro Nakamura), has a secret mistress and grown-up son in the town, and decides to torment them by bribing another actress from the troupe to seduce the son.Cast
