Fred Rexer, a.k.a. Fred L. Rexer, a.k.a. Fred Rexer, Jr., is a former U.S. Green Beret, participant in the Phoenix Counterterrorism Program, and Hollywood actor and screenwriter. He is best known as the military advisor for Apocalypse Now
. Fred Rexer has contributed numerous passages to the screenplay of that film and other films written or directed by John Milius and Walter Hill. He is the real-life prototype of its protagonist Willard, the army captain who toils up-river to terminate Colonel Kurtz and his renegade command.
