Gimme Shelter is the name of a documentary film directed by Albert and David Maysles, chronicling the Rolling Stones' 1969 U.S. tour. The film is named after "Gimme Shelter", the lead track from the Rolling Stones' 1969 album Let It Bleed. Performances documented in the film include Tina Turner (who was the Rolling Stones' opening act for the '69 tour), The Flying Burrito Brothers and Jefferson Airplane.

The film culminates in the disastrous Altamont free concert. Security for the concert was provided by the Hells Angels. Meredith Hunter, a gun-toting fan, was stabbed to death by a member of the Angels. The stabbing was caught on camera. The film discounts the myth that the stabbing took place during "Sympathy for the Devil". The stabbing took place during the song "Under my Thumb".

A young George Lucas, later the director and producer of the Star Wars series, was a member of the film crew. It has been suggested that Lucas was operating the camera that filmed the stabbing, although he has reportedly denied this.

A live version of the Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" plays over the closing credits.
