Movies - Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II

Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla II (Gojira tai Mekagojira in the original Japanese) is a 1993 film. Part of the Toho studio's Godzilla
series, it was directed by Takao Okawara with special effects by Koichi Kawakita
. It was written by Wataru Mimura.

Plot

The JSDF lifts the remains of Mecha-King Ghidorah
from the ocean. Using the armor that the Futurians gave him they create Mechagodzilla
, a super weapon to finally kill Godzilla.

On a mission to an island in the Pacific, a Japanese team comes across an egg. They take the egg which somehow attracts Rodan
and Godzilla who fight with each other. The egg is taken back to Japan where it hatches into a Baby Godzilla. Godzilla appears to get his Baby back but the JSDF's Mechagodzilla battles the giant monster, nearly killing it. Suddenly Mechagodzilla shuts down and Godzilla flees.

Tests on Baby Godzilla reveal that it has a second brain to control its tail. The JSDF assume that Godzilla has a similar brain. They decide to use Baby Godzilla to bait Godzilla to them and use G-Crusher, a system designed to destroy Godzilla's second brain, on the monster. Instead Rodan is attracted to the bait as well and fights Mechagodzilla, losing. Godzilla then shows up and starts to battle Mechagodzilla. Mechagodzilla uses G-Crusher and Godzilla is taken down. Rodan transfers his remaining energy to Godzilla which revives him. Godzilla uses his new Finishing Beam to defeat Mechagodzilla. Godzilla and Baby Godzilla swim away, to find a new home.

Original Ending

The original ending for Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II was that Mechagodzilla really does kill Godzilla, therefore ending the Heisei series. But, Godzilla transfers his energy to Baby Godzilla who grows into an Adult Godzilla. This new Godzilla would be used in Tristar's version but Sony decided that they wanted to make a standalone film of their own. Another ending considered is that Godzilla is killed by Mechagodzilla, but not after damaging the ship Garuda. The nuclear engine inside irradiates Godzilla, giving him new strength to defeat his mechanical clone.
