Gorilla My Dreams is a 1948 Warner Brothers Looney Tunes theatrical animated short, starring Bugs Bunny. It was directed by Robert McKimson, and written by Warren Foster. The story is a parody of the many 'jungle' movies that were prominent in the 1930s and 40s, including the Tarzan movies.

Plot

Bugs is stranded in a barrel in the middle of the ocean, but he doesn't seem to mind - he's reading Esquire magazine and singing the song "Tradewinds" (a song made popular by Bing Crosby).

On the island of 'Tansania', the population is made up of gorillas that act like humans - they read the paper, have families and live in huts. One of them, Mrs. Gruesome Gorilla, is sad that she doesn't have any children - though her husband could care less. When Mrs. Gruesome spots Bugs floating in his barrel, she takes him back to her treetop (at one point, giving way to a Tarzan look-alike). Mrs. Gruesome wants Bugs to be her 'baby'. At first, Bugs doesn't want to, but when Mrs. Gruesome starts crying, he gives in (as Bugs puts it, "That's my one soft spot - dames crying.")

Mrs. Gruesome then presents Bugs to Mr. Gruesome - who is none too happy about having a baby in the house (especially one that looks nothing like a gorilla). Mr. Gruesome takes Bugs out for 'play', but Bugs soon realizes that he's in for a beating if he sticks around. A long chase ensues, and at the end of the cartoon, Bugs is trapped against a cliff. In an unusual act, he allows Gruesome Gorilla to beat on him. However, because of the long chase that preceded it, Gruesome quickly tires out and drops from exhaustion, with Bugs emerging as the 'victor'.
