Gotti was a TV movie made in 1996 starring Armand Assante and many of the actors who would later play mob men on The Sopranos. It was a factual representation of the rise and fall of John Gotti. The movie did not portray the infamous meeting of Sammy "the Bull" Gravano and Gotti. They did not meet at the house of Carlo Gambino when discussing a hit; however, they met through many meetings and word of mouth from the other capos. Also not portrayed were the hits of Louie Milito and Mikey DeBatt (they were discussed in a small wiretap scene in the courtroom). The movie does, however, show a reflection of John Gotti's stoic personality when Gotti gets sentenced to a lifetime in jail, without the possibility of parole. Facing the reality of never being a free man, John Gotti looks in the mirror and says: "it's going to be Cosa Nostra, 'til I die".

This film starts with John Gotti and Frank Locascio in jail discussing the drug trade,other criminal organization's are ruining the planet, Then as the credits go by there is the Gambino Crime Family tree where you see Carlo Gambino and all of the main players in the film. The film does show John Gotti's love for his son Frank Gotti after his brutal accident,what this movie did not show was an accurate account of John Favara's death,making seem as if Salvatore Gravano murdered Favara as a favor to Gotti.

This film was the highest rated original telefilm in HBO history at that time. (cited from IMDB.com)

Armand Assante won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Special, for his performance. (Assante also received a Golden Globe nomination the same year.)
