	Movies - Gupt: The Hidden Truth

Gupt: The Hidden Truth is a Bollywood film released in 1997, directed by Rajiv Rai. The film starred Bobby Deol, Kajol, Manisha Koirala, Paresh Rawal, Om Puri and Raj Babbar. Gupt was the most successful thriller Bollywood movie in 1997 and was highly acclaimed for its unique storyline and soundtrack.

Plot

Sahil (Bobby Deol) does not get along with his step-father (Raj Babbar) and continually disobeys and disrespects him. At this time he meets Sheetal (Manisha Koirala) and his childhood friend Isha (Kajol). Sahil and Isha love each other secretly. As he gets to know Sheetal, she begins to fall for him. Knowing this her father arranges the engagement between her and Sahil, to be announced at his birthday party. Sahil however intends to make the announcement that he and Isha are going to marry each other.

Angered that his step father arranged his marriage to Sheetal he picks up a knife and almost stabs him. The next day Sahil finds his step-father stabbed to death. All that is found is a locket at the crime scene. He is placed at the murder scene, his mother, lawyer, doctor all testify against him and he is sent to jail. Willing to prove his innocence he escapes and starts looking for clues along with Sheetal's help, who is still in love with him. However a rogue police officer Udham Singh (Om Puri) is after him.

Sahil starts going through the suspects but with no clue at all as to who is the killer. One by one all of who had testified against Sahil are either hospitalized in serious conditions or are killed like Dr. Gandhi (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) who needed to tell Sahil something. It comes as a shock when he finds out that Isha's father (Paresh Rawal) confessed the crime of killing his father and Dr. Gandhi. Isha herself is distraught and goes to the police station to meet her dad. Sahil returns to his mother and his home but is still confused as to why Isha's dad would kill his father. He stays up trying to uncover the mystery surrounding the locket which was found at the crime scene.

At the same time someone is approaching Uddham Singh's house. Sahil mananges to open the locket and to his shock and horror discovers that Isha is the killer. Isha is seen standing behind Uddham Singh and she stabs him.

Sahil goes to the police station and meets Isha's father: he explains that he knows Isha killed everyone and he was trying to protect her. Isha's father tells him that she did everything for Sahil in order to be with him. As the father explains everything, the police officers appear and tell Sahil that there's been another murder. Sahil realises what Isha has done and quickly goes to Sheetal's house, knowing she is next.

Sheetal is unaware of what's happened and while on the phone sees Isha standing near to the door. Isha asks Sheetal to what lengths she would for Sahil. Sheetal replies that she would die for him. Isha says that she would also die for Sahil but is also willing to kill anyone who gets between her and Sahil. Sheetal discovers a knife in Isha's hand. There is a struggle between the two, but Sahil manages to get there in time and stop Isha from delivering the fatal blow. Also Udham Singh reaches the house and shoots Isha in the back and she dies in Sahil's arms.
