Haile Gerima (* 1946) is an ethiopian filmmaker who came to the United States in 1968. At UCLA he was an important member of the Los Angeles School of black film makers. He is a professor of film at Howard University in Washington, DC since 1975. His best kown film is probably Sankofa (1993), a film about slavery.
