Henry VIII and his Six Wives (1973) is the only feature-length film to deal with all six of King Henry VIII's wives (other television movies have divided the story up into two or six parts.) The film was also the first feature-length film made on Henry VIII since the 1933 comedy of manners The Private Life of Henry VIII
. The star of the film was Australian actor Keith Michell, who had played the King two years previously in the BBC television movies The Six Wives of Henry VIII. Charlotte Rampling starred as Anne Boleyn, Jane Asher played her successor Jane Seymour, Brian Blessed as the king's brother-in-law and Lynne Frederick played Henry's teenage fifth queen Catherine Howard. Frederick's husband, Peter Sellers, began pursuing her after watching her portray Catherine Howard. The film is also the only one to portray the inaccurate legend of Anne Boleyn's deformed finger (see the article on her life.) It was not until 2003, in a 2-part television movie, that Henry VIII's private life was retold - this time with the cast of Ray Winstone (Henry VIII), Helena Bonham Carter (Anne Boleyn), David Suchet (Cardinal Wolsey), Sean Bean (Robert Aske) and Emily Blunt (Catherine Howard).
