Hera Pheri is a 2000 Bollywood comedy directed by Priyadarshan. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Sunil Shetty.

Story

The movie revolves around the lives of three men who live in the poor side of Mumbai City, each having monetary troubles that they find impossible to solve. Needy Shyam (Sunil Shetty) strives for a job inorder to pay back a debt to an equally needy friend (Om Puri), Raju (Akshay Kumar), a daydreaming lothario who needs money to support his old mother and Baburao (Paresh Rawal), their boisterous, slow witted yet kind hearted landlord who's struggling to pay off his late father's debts.

The first half revolves around the early attempts to solve their problems with sometimes humorous consequences. Despite this, unlike other Bollywood movies, the comedy in the movie has a certain serious tone and the humour arises due to the dysfunctional relationships of the characters rather than slaptstick although there is fair few slapstick moments as well.

The second half deals with their problems through a bizarre series of mistaken identity and comedy of errors or in the case of Raju, sins.

Hera Pheri is often seen among the general public as one of the better Bollywood movies in the nineties. It has the usual Bollywood traditions such as musical numbers, convoluted plot but unlike it's predecessors it differs greatly by creating rich three dimensional characters who are shown possessing depth. A characteristic that greatly differs it from the classic Bollywood stereotypes.
