| Herpo The Foul is a fictional character from the Potterverse, created by J. K. Rowling. He was an ancient Greek Dark wizard who bred the first recorded Basilisk. He appears on Famous Wizard card number 4 and in the fictional book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them under "Basilisk". He was also a Parselmouth and the only one known of apart from Salazar Slytherin himself and his descendents. Herpo's name derives from the Greek "herpeton" which means "reptile" and/or "herpo" which is Greek for "to creep".
