Light Squadron Maskman was the Toei production and the 11th entry of the Sentai Series. It aired on TV Asahi from February 28, 1987 to February 20, 1988, with a total of 51 episodes.

Plot

Everything starts with Commander Sugata, who excels in mental reinforcements. He discovered the existence of the Underground Empire Tube, a malignant force that desires to dominate the land, located underground Japan. In the beginning, the Tube was centered in the Pacific. However, when Zeba assumed the throne, they began planning to conquer the world. Their goal was to turn the world into a cold and shady planet, suitable for their living conditions. In an attempt to thwart their plan, Sugata recruited 5 young people, each one specialized in a style of martial arts, and endowed them with mystical aura power energy.

Characters

Maskmen

Takeru (タケル) / Red Mask (レッドマスク): The leader of the group. He is 23 years old, and is a specialist in Karate and a Formula 1 driver.
* Attacks / Weapons: Masky Blade and Laser Arrow

Kenta (ケンタ) / Black Mask (ブラックマスク): The second in command of the team. He is 21 years old and specializes in kung fu.
* Attacks / Weapons: Masky Rod

Akira (アキラ) / Blue Mask (ブル－マスク): The youngest of the team. He is 16 years old. Chinese boxing and broadsword expert.
* Attacks / Weapons: Masky Tonfas

Haruka (ハルカ) / Yellow Mask (イエローマスク): She is 19 years old and was raised in a family of ninjas.
* Attacks / Weapons: Mask Rotor yoyos and Shadow Split Bodies

Momoko (モモコ) / Pink Mask (ピンクマスク): She is 19 years old. An expert in Tai Chi Chuan.
* Attacks / Weapons: Masky Ribbon

Ryuu Asuka (飛鳥リョー Asuka Ryū) / X1 Mask (エックスワンマスク): Ryuu was the prototype of the first Maskman, also having trained with Commander Sugata. However, when his wife was killed by the Underground Empire Tube, he gave up everything. He helped the other Maskman, losing his powers after that.

Allies

Commander Sanjuurou Sugata (光戦隊長官 Sugata Sanjūrō-shirei): Scientist and Martial Artist who founded the team. Studious of being able them of the mind, the Sugata head discovered the existence of the Underground Empire Tube, which of beginning was Pacific. With the ascent of Zeba to the power it started to desire the conquest of the world. Mysterious man was it it who fought against Takeru one year before if transforming into Red Mask. He is owner of the Sugata Racing, motoring team where Takeru is the pilot.

Underground Empire Tube

Once a peaceful underground empire, corrupted by usurper Zeba, who now intends to rule surface world.

Earth Emperor Zeba: Leader of the underground Empire Tube who hates all human beings. His true form is the Lissaldogla monster, whose parent was killed by the original Tube Royal family. He emerges as a giant monster in the finale where he is destroyed by Galaxy Robo done by the Maskman though some may have expected it to be the Great Five to do the job.

Princess Igam: Sister of the Princess Ial, Igam fights to honor the name of their family in the guise of a man. The isigna of thekir family being the holy ghost Igan Dragon. Amongst her abilities it is the Desring, with which it can create an electrified field of force, however as inconvenient it spends much energy and with this "Igan against Takeru" leaves very it tired, as it occurred in its first fight against Takeru in episode 10. She became a nun towards the end of the series leaving her sister to become the new empress.

Oyubu: Of red skin and large ears, he is ninja of the Buyon tribe. They have the ability to go off fire of its hands.

Anagumas: Overweight beast who knows all. He was destroyed during the episode when Zehba's secret was revealed.

Fumin: Feminine Ninja of the Fu tribe, is in service of the clan of Igan. For account of this more faithful age to its lady of whom to king Zeba. Trained in combat and techniques ninja, has the ability to go off shurikens and fire for the mouth. Its ability rivaled with the one of Yellow Mask.

Thief Knight Kiros: It appears for the first time in episode 27. Kiros was gotten passionate for Princess Ial and fell in the Hell Gale, but it survived the incident. With his weapon Crescent Screw (composed of a chain and a scythe, created while it was in the Hell Gale) he obtained to destroy the Bomb Projectile. After this, he makes an agreement with Zeba in which after to defeat the Maskman would be with the Princess Ial. He is killed when Princess Ial wakes up.
