| Hortense is a fictional horse who was owned by Scrooge McDuck. Until 1882 Hortense was owned by Murdo MacKenzie. She was called the Widow Maker, because of her foul temper. Scrooge wasn't thrown off of Hortense because his money-belt was hung up in her saddle. After she became Scrooge's horse he called her Hortense, after his sister Hortense McDuck.
