House of the Dead 2 is the sequel to Brightlight Pictures' 2003's House of the Dead. The movie is directed by Michael Hurst and premiered on the SciFi Channel on February 11, 2006. The DVD will be released on February 27, 2006 in North America.

Plot summary

Taking place shortly after the original, government operatives are sent to investigate a new infection that has rapidly spread across fictional "Cuesta Verde University". Professor Dr. Curien (Sid Haig), obsessed with the idea of bringing the dead back to life, has accidently created a new generation of "hypersapians"; or zombies. The operatives must bring back a first-generation blood sample from a zombie in order to create a vaccine against the virus, which is spread through biting. However, tensions between AMS and special forces, stemming from the apparent inexperience of the latter, create conflict within the team. The divided parties now face an army of highly evolved zombies that can easily chew through their body armour.

The movie is based on the video game series of the same name.
AMS Agent Ellis (Ed Quinn) is mourning the death of a fellow AMS agent, his brother Tom. This is a possible reference to Thomas Rogan, a character from the video games.
Ellie Cornell returned as Colonel Jordan Casper even though, in House of the Dead, her character lost limbs, died, and got blown up. Casper was inserted during script rewrite.
After the initial zombie outbreak in the film, we are told that it is 29 days later when we finally return to the story. This is a referance to Danny Boyle's cult zombie hit 28 Days Later
.
During his crazed monologue Professor Curian curses his inanimate subject saying it "once again leaves me alone...alone in the dark." This refers to the film Alone in the Dark that was directed by the same director of the first House of the Dead, Uwe Boll.
