| How to Beat the High Co$t of Living is a 1980 comedy film, starring Jane Curtin, Susan Saint James and Jessica Lange. The film concerns the misadventures of three housewives in the recession of the late 1970s and early 1980s. All of them are in financial straits, and they decide to take up theft. After several rather inept heists and attempted heists, they focus on a large transparent ball full of cash at their local mall as their ultimate target. Much of the movie was shot in and around Eugene, Oregon, a change from the more usual Southern California setting. The movie was difficult to find for a long time, having only been in print on VHS tape for a short time, but has now appeared on DVD.
