How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying was a humorous book by Shepherd Mead. It inspired a successful 1961 musical of the same name, which was made into a movie in 1967.

The book

Mead's book satirized 1950s United States corporate business, in the guise of a "self-help" book.

The musical

The musical had a long run on Broadway (1,417 performances). The music and lyrics were written by Frank Loesser and book by Abe Burrows, Jack Weinstock, and Willie Gilbert. The show garnered Burrows and Loesser the 1962 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
