Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) is an Indian film. It was filmed throughout the Gujarat-Rajasthan border region, as well as in Budapest (Italy in the movie). It stars Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Ajay Devgan.

The plot features a Hindi love triangle.

Story

Nandini (Aishwarya Rai) is the daughter of Pandit Darbar (Vikram Gokhale), renowned proponent of classical music, living in the Rann of Kutch. Nandini has been brought up with more freedom and education than her siblings, as she is the most beloved of Pandit Darbar.

Into the family comes Sameer (Salman Khan), a boy of Indo-Italian parentage. He is a music student and wants to grasp the essence of Hindustani music under the guidance of Pandit Darbar. During the course of his one-year stay, Sameer and Nandini fall in love.

When their love is discovered, Sameer is banished from the household. Sameer writes to Nandini, but his letters don't reach her in time. Meanwhile Nandini's parents have arranged to get her married. Nandini goes through the marriage with Vanraj (Ajay Devgan). He is deeply in love with her and all he asks is that they maintain the charade of a happy couple for the sake of his family. They live in this deceit briefly, until Sameer's letters reach Nandini and Vanraj discovers them. He then shows his true love and wisdom by taking Nandini to Italy to search for Sameer.

Nandini and Vanraj search for Sameer but always come up against a dead end. During their search, the come across an obstacle, where they are being robbed and Nandi shot by one of the thiefs. She gets hospitalized, and Vanraj selflessly devotes himself to caring for Nandini during her stay in hospital. After her discharge from the hospital, they get news about Sameer (through his mom), and decide to meet, on the night of his debut concert. When Nandini and Sameer do meet, Nandini realizes that her heart is no longer with Sameer but with Vanraj, and that he is the one that she really ever loved. She leaves broken hearted Sameer and goes back to Vanraj to confess her love to him.
